My Favorite Healthy Treat!

Berries! Not only are these colorful treats nutritious, but they are low in calories, high in fiber, and have several wrinkle and disease-fighting properties.  All berries contain anthocyanins which act as powerful antioxidants and provide many health benefits. My personal picks are strawberries, blueberries and raspberries.  :)

Strawberries are a great source of Vitamin C (one cup contains over 100 mg) which helps fight free radicals and prevents skin damage.  Since free radicals are a main cause of aging and skin damage, this is very important. Strawberries also contain folate, magnesium and potassium which can protect your skin cells, fight inflammation and even help prevent heart disease.

Often dubbed as superfoods, blueberries have numerous health benefits.  They provide more antioxidants than most other fruits and vegetables. Containing large amounts of polyphenols, blueberries help protect collagen and prevent free radical damage. They also assist in fighting wrinkles, cancer and heart disease.

There are many reasons to add raspberries to your diet as well.  Also a good source of Vitamin C and Manganese, they help fight free radicals and inflammation and may even help with acne and psoriasis.

I love adding these colorful fruits to some non-sweetened Greek yogurt or blended in a smoothie.  They are a perfect example of why healthy food doesn't have to be boring or tasteless!

What are some of your favorite healthy treats?
